Nurse Reportedly Reused Flu Shot Syringes In Mercer County

The 67 employees at Otsuka Pharmaceutical in West Windsor who received the flu shots are being warned, the report said.

Officials are recommending employees at a Mercer County pharmaceutical company get tested for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV after a nurse allegedly reused a syringe while administering flu shots to employees last week, NBC 10 reports.

The nurse changed the needle, but reused the same syringe while administering shots to 67 employees at Otsuka Pharmaceutical in West Windsor, according to the report.

As a result, employees may have been exposed to infected blood, although the risk is the New Jersey Department of Health says the risk is “low,” according to the report.

The nurse also allegedly gave a dose of the flu vaccine lower than what is recommended, so employees are also advised to get another flu shot, according to the report.

It was unclear if the nurse had been disciplined.
