Services Scheduled Tuesday For Longtime Doctor From Wyckoff

A doctor who worked at Hackensack University Medical Center has died from complications of a disease he battled since his 30s.

WYCKOFF, NJ — Services will be held Tuesday for a pathologist who raised his family in Teaneck and Wyckoff and worked at North Jersey hospitals.

Stephen Roger Peters, MD, of Wyckoff, passed away this past Friday at age 70 due to complications of multiple sclerosis, which had been diagnosed nearly 40 decades ago, according to his obituary.

Peters had served as vice chairman of pathology at Hackensack University Medical Center and associate professor and director of surgical pathology at Rutgers, his obituary said. He was also affiliated with University Hospital in Newark.

Peters was born in Queens, graduated from Boston University School of Medicine, and married his high school sweetheart, Jeannine, who passed away in 2015. They raised their family in Teaneck and Wyckoff, the obituary said.

The obituary notes, "He founded Pathology Innovations, LLC in 2002 after inventing the Precision Cryoembedding System, which is now used and benefiting physicians and patients all over the world. He owned and operated his business until March of this year, until his children and manufacturer took over day-to-day operations. He loved pathology and especially teaching."

He also was known to play guitar, especially at celebrations.
