Staff at Christian Health Care Center Adopt Residents to Ensure They Have a Gift to Open on Christmas Day

For the past eight years, the Therapeutic Activities staff at CHCC has promoted the Adopt a Resident program.

Staff at Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff goes above and beyond to enhance the quality of life for their residents, and Christmas time is no exception. For the past eight years, the Therapeutic Activities staff has promoted the Adopt a Resident program, ensuring that every nursing home resident had at least one gift to open on Christmas Day. A total of 205 gifts were collected to be distributed to residents. Employees who participate oftentimes choose a resident who they know so that the gift can be more personal. For example, one staff member chose a resident who she knew loved dogs and manicures, so she bought a stuffed dog and an assortment of nail polish.

Staff and individuals from several of our programs participated by collecting gifts, including the Child Day Care Center in the lower level of The Longview Assisted Living Residence, which is managed by the Wyckoff Family YMCA.

“The Adopt a Resident program is always such a big success and ensures that each resident here will have a special gift to open on Christmas Day,” said Vanessa Carell, ADC, CDP, Assistant Director of Therapeutic Activities. “The outpouring of response from staff members is wonderful, and many work hard to make the gifts unique and personal.”
