Two Wyckoff Police Officers Sworn In Tuesday
New hires bring the number of officers back up to 23.
Two probationary police officers were sworn in at the Wyckoff Township Committee meeting Tuesday.
John P. Rafferty lives in Ringwood. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in law and justice from Rowan University where he played rugby. He is a March 2015 graduate of the Passaic County Police Academy’s alternate route program.
Rafferty has been working as the head lifeguard at Shepherd Lake in Ringwood State Park. He was selected to be the regional trainer for all lifeguards working at state parks. He is certified in CPR, defibrillator usage, and the administration of emergency oxygen.

Raffery earned Eagle Scout rank with the Boy Scouts in 2006 and continues to mentor young scouts, helping them earn their merit badges.
Michael R. Flim is a Hawthorne resident. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from John Jay College and is February 2015 graduate of the Essex County Police Academy’s alternate route program.

He has been working as a supervisor at Alpha Analytical in Mahwah where he was responsible for overseeing delivery couriers.
Flim also volunteers with his church, mentoring teenagers in the youth group and plays in the church band.
Rafferty’s and Flim’s annual starting salary is approximately $41,000, officials said. They will train with a senior police officer in the field for five or six weeks and will be on a probationary status for two years.
Mayor Kevin Rooney said the men will be ”great assets to the community and the department.”
Chief Benjamin Fox agreed.
“I know we’re very proud to bring them on board,” Fox said.
