'Very Large' Bear Spotted Rummaging Through Garbage In Franklin Lakes

A bear was spotted rummaging through garbage on Aspen Way in Franklin Lakes Monday morning, police said.

The black bear was seen shortly before 6:30 a.m. searching through a resident’s garbage for food, said Lt. John Bakelaar.

“There’s not much we can do, if they’re near a school, we chase them away,” said Bakelaar. “There’s not much we can do about it unless someone’s life is in danger.”

The same bear was reportedly seen on Wooded Trail shortly after 7 a.m., Bakelaar said.
