Wyckoff Police Cracking Down On Distracted Drivers
Department participating in Put The Brakes On Fatalities Day next month.

Texting, talking on the phone, not stopping for pedestrians, and speeding are just some of the most common causes of traffic fatalities.
The Wyckoff Police Department is participating in Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day Oct. 10. The nationwide initiative is meant to help foster good driving behavior.
“Far too many persons are killed and injured each year in motor vehicle crashes,” said Chief Benjamin Fox. “By changing your behavior in a positive way, you greatly influence your chances of not becoming a possible death or injury statistic.”

The department’s Traffic Bureau will be looking for distracted drivers and issue summonses for motorists who are not driving cautiously, which includes: not stopping for pedestrians, not driving the speed limit, talking on the phone, texting, and not being careful when passing bicyclists, and not wearing a seat belt.
Fox said that the goal is to “raise awareness about our individual driving behaviors in the hope that it will have a positive change each and every day of the year.”
