Wyckoff Police Urge Residents To Be Careful This Halloween With Safety Tips
Destroying or defacing residents' properties is vandalism, Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox says.

Wyckoff Police officials are urging parents and children to take be responsible and help make Halloween enjoyable and safe.
“Children enjoy trick or treating and the residents who greet them at their front doors enjoy the creativity and excitement of their visitors,” said Chief Benjamin Fox. “Destroying another’s property should be seen in the context of what it is: Vandalism and it can have far reaching consequences beyond the moment’s actions.”
Fox and the department urge parents and children to take some precautions to make sure their families are safe this Halloween:

- Costumes should have light colors in them or parents should place reflective tape on them so children can be better seen.
- Costumes should be short to prevent trips and falls.
- Try using makeup instead of a mask.
- Trick or treaters should always go out in groups and parents should accompany young children.
- Map out a safe route so parents know where they’ll be and that they should only stop at familiar houses where the outside lights are on.
- Homeowners should make sure their yards are clear of ladders, hoses, dog leashes and flower pots.
- Only unopened, treats in their original wrappers should be eaten.
