Wyckoff Police Warn Residents After Recent Burglaries

Three burglaries have happened in Wyckoff homes this week. Chief Fox is urging residents to report suspicious vehicles or people.

Wyckoff police are warning residents after burglaries happened at three Wyckoff homes this week.

Police responded to a Pace Drive home on Oct. 13 just after 11 a.m. after a burglar alarm activated. Sgt. Jack McEwan and Sgt. Brian Zivkovich discovered that an attempt had been made to pry open a rear door, which activated the alarm and caused the burglar to flee.

Later that same afternoon, a Thomas Place resident came home to find the house burglarized. The burglar entered the house through a rear second floor window and the resident reported jewelry and a computer were stolen.

Two days later, on Oct. 15, a Brewster Road resident received a call from his alarm company that his motion detector had been activated just before 11:30 a.m.. The resident went to his house and discovered that someone had shattered the glass on a rear sliding door creating a hole large enough to walk through. Upon entering the house, the burglar activated the motion detector and fled without taking anything.

A suspect vehicle in these burglaries is a late model blue or green colored Nissan Altima.

Wyckoff Chief of Police Benjamin Fox urged residents to be alert for suspicious cars and persons in their neighborhood and report it to the police. As the holidays approach, burglaries tend to be on the increase.

Although these recent burglaries happened during daytime, the early hours of darkness create the potential for burglaries. Residents who do not arrive home from work until after dark should make sure that the lights in the home turn on with timers. A completely darkened home in the early evening hours is an easy and clear sign that the home is unoccupied, Chief Fox said.

An active investigation of these burglaries is underway.
