1. Albuquerque City Council Celebrates Beloved Seven Bar Elementary Educator Elizabeth Ours on Her 90th Birthday (cabq.gov) — Albuquerque's City Council is honoring longtime Seven Bar Elementary educator Elizabeth Ours by proclaiming today, Sept. 10, 2026, as "Elizabeth Ours Day" on her 90th birthday. A brief outdoor celebration at the school's amphitheater runs from 9:15–9:35 a.m., with heavy traffic expected around the campus starting at 9 a.m.
2. Albuquerque High's Abby Pavia selected for ADEMEBA-USA team in Mexico (abqjournal.com subscription) — Albuquerque High standout guard Abby Pavia has been selected for the 16U ADEMEBA-USA women's national select team, heading to Monterrey later this month while preparing for her next season with the Bulldogs. Meanwhile, Albuquerque Academy guard Zac Borrego has committed to Division I Northern Arizona, highlighting a big week for local high school basketball talent.
3. New Albuquerque Museum exhibit showcases vintage State Fair history with 'Fun at the State Fair!' (abq.news) — Albuquerque residents can explore more than a century of New Mexico State Fair history at the Albuquerque Museum's new "Fun at the State Fair!" exhibit, running through Feb. 14, 2027. 4. New Mexico nursing homes lead nation in health citations as caregiver shortage raises concerns (kob.com) — A New Mexico report shows the state's nursing homes, including Albuquerque's Las Palomas Center, lead the nation in health citations, raising alarms about resident safety. Advocates and state officials point to low pay, limited benefits, and inadequate training for caregivers, while urging legislative action and sharing resources like the Long-Term Care Ombudsman hotline for concerned families.
5. A new mission for fusion: Testing America's nuclear arsenal (businessreport.com) — A privately funded startup, Pacific Fusion, is building a powerful new fusion facility in Albuquerque that could generate over 1,000 times the fusion power of the government's current weapons-testing machine.
