1. Albuquerque mother charged under Bennie's Law appears in court (krqe.com) — An Albuquerque mother appeared in court after her teenage son allegedly accidentally shot a friend in the shoulder with her unsecured handgun at their northeast home. Police say they found three loaded, unlocked handguns in the house, and she now faces charges under Bennie's Law, which makes it a crime to negligently allow minors access to firearms.
2. Groundbreaking held for housing project in Albuquerque (krqe.com) — State and city leaders just broke ground on La Curva, a new workforce housing development on Central Avenue near Old Town that will add 70 homes for Albuquerque workers squeezed by high housing costs. A planned second phase could double that number, as officials say New Mexico is trying to catch up on long-neglected housing investment and expand options for middle-income residents.
3. Call for presentations now open for the 2027 NVFC Training Summit (firerescue1.com) — Albuquerque will host the National Volunteer Fire Council's 2027 Training Summit on June 25–26, and the group is now seeking presentation proposals. Fire and EMS professionals can pitch sessions on health, safety, leadership, recruitment, and more, with selected instructors receiving travel support and a stipend for their educational courses.
