The state has awarded the district $348,800 each year for the next five years for extended school day programs at Montessori Magnet School, North Albany Academy and William S. Hackett Middle School, all of which provide little or no after-school academic support. You can visit the State Ed website for more information.

With this grant – and funding from the district's one-time federal American Rescue Plan funding as well as Empire State After School Program and 21st Century Community Learning Centers programs -- the district will provide extended-day programs at all its schools during the 2021-22 school year.

Students who will benefit from the new state-supported programs scored below their grade level in state tests or assessments that measure academic growth.

Montessori’s program will serve 46 students from kindergarten through grade 5 for two hours after school every Monday-Friday. Hackett’s and North Albany’s programs each will serve 86 students in grades 6-8 for two hours after school every Monday-Thursday. Students will be provided with bus transportation, as well.

Students will receive an hour of tutoring and homework help sessions from district teachers, and have an hour of activities run by Boys & Girls Club of the Capital Area.

The new programs will begin in September.
