Ellen's Days of Take Aways

Celebrity Scam

At least since October that I know of Ellen Degeneres has been giving away cash prizes to random viewers starting with Facbook users. Except that she doesn't know it. It's just a scam.

I became aware of this just yesterday on Twitter. The fake Ellen followed and messaged me, not once, but three times using three different channels. I ignored twice then decided to have fun with it.

Fake Ellen first confirmed that I watch the show then informed me that I was eligible to win two prizes. A mobile home and a large sum of money. She asked what I would do with the prizes if I won. I thought of how to respond then said I would give it all to the she's producer Average Andy Lassner for being such a good sport.

A few moments later I was informed that I was the first to win the prize and would need to answer a few questions. I said Andy would be happy to hear that I was giving the money to him and there was no need to give further info since he works right there. It was clear whoever was contacting me had no clue what I was saying back. We went back and forth until she gave up.

One way to handle a scam.
