Man Disappears Into East River Near Astoria Ferry; Search Continues
Authorities swarmed the Astoria waterfront to search for a man who disappeared into the East River on Monday afternoon. He remains missing.

ASTORIA, QUEENS — A man disappeared into the East River Monday afternoon near the Astoria ferry stop, prompting an overnight search that has continued into Tuesday morning, according to authorities.
Just after 3:30 p.m. Monday, the man was seen entering the water in the Halletts Cove area, near the Astoria NYC Ferry landing off Vernon Boulevard, according to an NYPD spokesperson.
Police have not released his name, but said he is a 32-year-old man who may be a Brooklyn resident.

Dozens of emergency vehicles soon converged on the waterfront, and the U.S. Coast Guard joined the search by 6 p.m., asking anyone with information to call 911.
After an all-night search, the man remained missing by 9 a.m. Tuesday. The Coast Guard said it had suspended its operations while NYPD divers continued searching.

Meanwhile, police are also canvassing nearby surveillance cameras to see what happened before the man entered the river, an NYPD spokesperson said.
