NYC Subway: Extensive 7 Train Delays Roil Morning Commute

Delays are plaguing 7 train service after reports of smoke in the tubes between Manhattan and Queens.

LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — Extensive delays are plaguing 7 train service Friday morning after reports of smoke in the tubes between Manhattan and Queens.

The MTA at 8 a.m. Friday halted 7 train service between 34 St-Hudson Yards and Queensboro Plaza and suspended express 7 train service while the FDNY investigated the source of smoke in the subway line's tunnels between Manhattan and Queens.

Service has since resumed, according to an MTA service update posted at 8:38 a.m.

The fire department received a 911 call shortly before 8 a.m. reporting smoke in the 7 train tunnels, but firefighters determined the report was unfounded, a spokesperson said.

"7 train service has resumed with extensive delays after FDNY investigated the source of smoke in the tubes between Manhattan and Queens," the MTA said on its website.

The LIRR briefly accepted MetroCard-holders at Main St., Woodside and Penn Stations after some Hudson Yards-bound 7 trains ended at 74 St.-Broadway, 61 St.-Woodside and Queensboro Plaza, according to the MTA. The LIRR stopped accepting MetroCards at 8:38 a.m.
