Additional Officers To Be Stationed At Babylon Train Station: MTA

The MTA made the announcement following complaints from local residents of increased crime in the area.

BABYLON, NY - The MTA announced on Thursday it will be increasing police presence at the Babylon train station following complaints from local residents of crime in the area.

The announcement came after state Senator Phil Boyle and local Assemblymen Michael LiPetri wrote a letter requesting a police officer at the local LIRR train station following reports of criminal activity earlier this month.

The two officials responded to a letter sent in November from a local resident suggesting that an MTA police officer be permanently assigned to patrol the train station during "peak and overlapping" hours.

"The Babylon Station is a main hub on the MTA line, at various intervals throughout the day the area is traversed by thousands of commuters as well as students and teachers going to and from Babylon High School, which is located just fifty yards from the station," the resident wrote in the letter. "With such a high concentration of people in a small area, the residents would be well served to have the visible presence of a uniformed MTA officer station at the platform."

As a result, the MTA will be adding officers at the station.

"We are increasing our police activity at the station, not just with uniformed officers but also plainclothes officers," MTA spokesperson Aaron Donovan wrote in an email.
