BABYLON, NY - The Babylon community came together to help raise enough money for local 10-year-old to purchase a new service dog.

On Friday, Babylon Crossfit, located on E. Main Street, hosted a fundraiser to help Aidan Peña, who was diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic, a life threatening autoimmune disease.

In order to help him with daily management of his illness, his family decided to do research to help him get a service dog. The dog would help predict rapid blood sugar changes 10 minutes before all his devices.

The family found a company that rescues dogs from shelters and turns them into service dogs, The Fetch Foundation in Arizona, but needed a little extra help to be able to afford the service dog for Peña.

Luckily, the community came through.

The event raised a total of $2,200 for Peña for his new service dog.

During the fundraiser, adults and children alike partook in a "WOD" (Workout of the Day) designed by Peña himself.

A total of 40 adult athletes and 15 kids were in attendance during the event.

"The energy was contagious and Aidan and his family were overwhelmed by the support, Krystina Puleo, event organizer, said.
