Babylon Resident Joins The Lustgarten Foundation and Nearly 8,000 Tri-State Area Residents in the Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk

Marylyn Walsh Will Walk to Find a Cure on October 12 at Jones Beach

Babylon resident Marylyn Walsh will join nearly 8,000 tri-state area residents as she honors her mother by participating in The Lustgarten Foundation’s 14th annual Long Island Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk. The walk will be held on Sunday, October 12, at Jones Beach.

The Lustgarten Foundation is the nation’s largest private foundation dedicated to funding pancreatic cancer research. Due to Cablevision’s support of The Lustgarten Foundation, 100 percent of every dollar that Marylyn and her fellow walkers raise will go directly to pancreatic cancer research.

It was a shock to the family when Marylyn’s mother Penny, a healthy mother and grandmother, went to the hospital in February 2013 about sudden stomach pain, only to discover she had pancreatic cancer. They immediately turned to The Lustgarten Foundation for support and also chose to attend the Foundation’s Long Island Walk for the first time that year as Team “Penny” with Penny, Marylyn and 50 other family members and friends. Penny refused to give up her fight, but after an 18-month battle, she sadly passed away this June just days before turning 49. Despite this devastating loss, Marylyn and Team “Penny” are determined to again attend the walk and help find a cure for pancreatic cancer.

Marylyn believes that participating in the walk is a moving and inspirational way to honor her mother. And for Marylyn, it is also fulfilling to know that 100 percent of all money she raises goes directly to pancreatic cancer research.

Kerri Kaplan, executive director, The Lustgarten Foundation, said: “We are so grateful to Marylyn and to others like her who have joined the fight against pancreatic cancer, determined to raise more awareness about the urgent need for more research to help beat this deadly disease. They are walking with the Foundation and with fellow participants in the spirit of hope, knowing that together we are one step closer to a cure.”
