Company Pumps Brakes On Bike-Share Program Due To Coronavirus

The bike-share program was supposed to return in April but the operator had to pull the plug due to the financial impact of the pandemic.

BABYLON, NY — A few months after coming to Babylon the operator of Bethpage Ride was forced to pumped the brakes on the bike-share program amid the coronavirus crisis. Due to the financial impacts of the pandemic, the company, Zagster Inc., announced it is unable to continue providing the program in Suffolk County.

In addition to Babylon, Zagster provides bicycles to Patchogue and Hampton Bays.

"This was sudden and unexpected as we awaited the return of this popular service," a message from Babylon Village officials read. "We are hopeful that the County will seek an alternate provider to return this healthy and affordable service to our residents."
