Drunken Man Drove 1 Mile In Wrong Direction On Route 109: Police

The 29-year-old was pulled over near the police precinct after being spotted driving the wrong way down the road, cops say.

WEST BABYLON, NY - A Lindenhurst man was caught driving drunk the wrong way down Route 109 in West Babylon early Thursday, Suffolk Police said.

An officer in a marked patrol car saw an eastbound 2014 Dodge Dart in the westbound lanes of the road at 12:45 a.m. The Dodge had traveled one mile in the wrong direction, passing at least three vehicles including a tractor trailer, police said.

The officer pulled the driver over just west of the First Precinct on 555 Route 109, police said.

The driver, 29-year-old Jeffrey Leach, was charged with a DWI, police said. He was also issued several summonses for traffic violations.

He was held overnight at the First Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on October 31.
