John F. Kennedy Elementary Goes Green

Students learn about keeping planet health and how recycling helps the Earth.

First-grade students in Jillian DiPreta and Jessica Peragine’s class at John F. Kennedy Elementary School in the West Babylon School District recently learned a valuable lesson about caring for the earth.

Diane Arthur, a representative from the Long Island Center for Arts and Sciences, visited the students and shared with them the Go Green program. During the presentation, the children learned the importance of keeping the planet healthy and ways they could reduce, reuse and recycle. Using newspaper, each child created a paper pot and planted a seed.

"The students really enjoyed getting their hands dirty and learned a great deal from Mrs. Arthur about taking care of the planet,” said Ms. DiPreta. “I hope they carry these lessons with them as they grow up and move on in school."
