Lots of Sweetness in the Village These Days
Whether it's smooth silky liquor or crunchy snacks, sweet is selling big these days in village stores.
If you haven’t stopped by D’Lites Emporium, which opened at the southwest corner of Fire Island Avenue and Main Street this past May, now may be the perfect opportunity as the ice cream shop is offering 50 flavors including two new holiday offerings: Egg Nog and Peppermint. And hey remember, a four-ounce serving is just 50 calories.
The pink and white ice cream shop also offers up lots of sweet choices on its new Candy Wall. There are even ‘cake pops’ to be had.
D’Lites is also running a few daily specials: Monday is buy one, get one at 50% off; On Tuesdays movie goers (with a ticket in hand) get a free topping; Wednesday is BOGO (buy one, get one free) and Sundays there is a $1.50 markdown on milkshakes.

It's hard to get out of there without giving in to one's sweet tooth.

Inside, where it's warmer these days, the trend in spirits sales is a return to the days of sweet liquers and Bailey’s is proving once again to be a popular seasonal purchase.
But wine is still the top drink of choice, says Bill Hudson, who has owned the store for 23 years. And in case you didn’t know, Ferraro's offers free delivery from Babylon to Sayville along the south shore route. But you might want to stop in at least once to check out the gift sets for the holidays. Who doesn't appreciate a good bottle with a nice glass to sip from.
Over at the on Deer Park Avenue, the big holiday sellers are tye-dye sweatshirts and hoodies sporting school names. The traditional school colors seem to be out of vogue this holiday. The racks boasted options for several local school districts as well as Babylon of course.
And, at Sweet Street, a popular holiday choice are the pretzel and popcorn pizzas. Yes, you read that right--pizzas. The snack trays are pizzas molded into ‘pies’ using pretzels or popcorn with chocolate sauce holding it together and adorned with festive sprinkles and even M&Ms.
“We started selling them last year,” said owner Rose Anne Sceppa, “but they really seem to be taking off this year."
And just so you know, I didn't cave to D'Lites' yummies, the Baileys or the pretzel-candy pizzas though I swore I felt the start of a troublesome toothache as I headed home.
