After much speculation and anticipation, the new franchise D'lites is open on the corner of Main Street and Fire Island Avenue. The former convenience store has been remodeled into a low-calorie ice cream shop, complete with a bright and funky decor seating area decked out in black, white and pink. Open until 11 p.m., the "ice cream with a twist" spot, as the chain's slogan goes, has the potential to be a post-movie gathering place. D'lites claims its product is low in sugar, carbohydrates, and fat while being kosher and free from artificial sweeteners. A clerk at the Babylon shop explained that the dozen available flavors rotates every two or three days. A four-ounce serving of the D'lites ice cream is 50 calories, according to the company's website. Babylon Village joins Woodbury as the second Long Island location for the brand.
