LONG ISLAND, NY - Lidl, a new German supermarket chain, will be opening two of its eight Long Island stores this month.

In October, the company announced plans to convert some of the former Best Markets, which sold over 20 of its Long Island stores to the company earlier this year, in addition to opening new stores in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

The first two locations in West Babylon and Center Moriches officially have an opening date of Dec. 11. Both stores will hold ribbon cutting events that begin at 7:40 a.m. and kick off a weekend of special offers, giveaways, and prizes for shoppers. After that the stores will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

  • Free Lidl reusable bags (while supplies last)
  • Sign up for Lidl's newsletter for the chance to win a $500 Lidl gift card. A total of three winners from each store for this award.
  • Samples all weekend long.

The West Babylon store will be the first Best Market on Long Island to be taken over by the new chain. The supermarket will be located on 725 Sunrise Highway.

"As a Long Island native, I know how important saving time and money is to residents across the Island," West Babylon store manager Joe Marazzo said. "Shoppers will be in awe at how much they can save with Lidl each week. My team and I cannot wait to serve the community."

In Center Moriches, the new Lidl will be taking over the former Center Moriches Marketplace on 812 Montauk Highway.

"I’ve worked in grocery for over two decades on Long Island, and never before have I seen a store that prioritizes quality and shopper savings as much as Lidl does," Center Moriches store manager Carlo Franzese said. "Our store brings significant new investment to Center Moriches and will be a customer-focused shopping destination that will be a great addition to the community. The team and I cannot wait to open on December 11."

In addition to the two supermarkets opening this month, Lidl will be replacing Best Markets in Oakdale, Patchogue, Lake Grove and East Meadow as well as opening new locations in Plainview and Huntington by next year.

"I hope and expect that this will be just the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship as we experience what grocery shoppers in several countries already know about a great company like Lidl," New York State Senator Phil Boyle said.
