Plenty of Positives for Babylon Boys Track

The Babylon boys' winter track team has seen plenty of positive results this season under the guidance of new head coach Hans Wiederkehr.

The Babylon boys’ winter track team has seen plenty of positive results this season under the guidance of new head coach Hans Wiederkehr.

And for good reason, after all, he’s been a physical teacher at Babylon for the past 26 years, so the trust factor was already in place.

“Although  it's been my first year as head coach and I didn’t know what to expect, we have 32 really good kids on the team and they are competing very well. They’re all three- sport athletes and in winter track, you see a more relaxed side of them, but they really enjoy competing," said the coach.

One of those standout athletes  is 55-meters competitor Stephen Loudon, who has excelled during several recent meets along with Andrew Hurst, another strong sprinter and Greg Dietrich. Keiran Donnelly, Anthony Pisotta and Jay Patel.

Kevin Connolly, Bryan Hubert and Bryan Campell round out the 55-meters athletes.

Reed Pagano has been one of the Panthers' top sprinters throughout the season, with teammate Matt Harverg also helping to secure the much-needed category.

In the 300- meters, Andrew Squeglia is one of the team’s top performers and in the 1000 meters, Tyler McGarvey and Nathan Tupper are each contributing to Babylon’s success.

Several standout shot putters include Trevon Fudim Casey Hogan and Zach Bassen and Harrison Dittmeier. In the 300-meters, Sean Halbig, Christan Fenton, Chris Obergon, Joe Routolo and Connor Hunter have all been bright spots for the Panthers and in the 600-meters, Dakota Gross and Matt Zeterberg are two key contributors.

“The kids are all very gifted athletically and they’ve been performing very well,” said Wiederkehr.

“There was really no getting used to anyone and from the moment I stepped in, I’ve been real pleased with their work ethic.”
