South Bay Elementary Students Enjoy "Winter Whiteout"

Students learn about the states of matter in an in-class experiment.

First-grade students in Debbie LoSardo’s class at South Bay Elementary School in the West Babylon School District recently took part in a "winter whiteout" during class.

Students furthered their cross-curricular study of winter by experimenting with the changing states of matter, using Ivory soap to make snowmen and shaving cream and glue to make puff paint for snow-themed pictures. Students also read “Snow Day” by Lester Laminack and made predictions, inferences and connections about the book as they read. They then wrote creative stories about snowmen.
