TOWN OF BABYLON, NY — The Town of Babylon has declared a State of Emergency effective Friday in order to take preventative measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. As of Sunday, the number of positive cases of coronavirus has risen to 106 on Long Island.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone stated in a press conference on Saturday that a total of 37 residents have tested positive in Suffolk County, including four in the Town of Babylon. However, it was not made clear what hamlet within the town the residents are from.

On Friday, Supervisor Rich Schaffer declared a State of Emergency to ensure that town officials are able to acquire all items deemed necessary to sanitize its facilities and do its part to prevent the spread of the virus.

According to Schaffer, town cleaning crews are frequently and thoroughly sanitizing town properties, including Town Hall, senior centers, youth centers and recreation facilities. Hand sanitizers are being placed throughout town buildings to provide easy access for both residents and employees. All large Town of Babylon gatherings and events scheduled for the next two weeks, with the exception of board meetings, have been postponed until further notice.

The Town of Babylon is also asking residents to use online services and/or call rather than visiting town facilities in an attempt to limit traffic throughout our buildings as a precaution. Many services that the town provides do not require a physical visit to Town Hall and can be handled online or over the telephone.
