Man Riding Scooter Dies After Being Hit By Car On Sunrise Highway

Police have identified the 43-year-old victim.

WEST BABYLON, NY — A man who was killed after being struck by a car while riding a scooter has been identified, Suffolk County Police said.

Edward Marcuteanu, 43, of Lindenhurst, was riding a Splach electric scooter in the middle lane of eastbound Sunrise Highway, between exits 39 and 40, 3:20 a.m. on Monday when he was struck by a 2016 Honda Accord, police said.

Marcuteanu was pronounced dead at the scene by an EMT from North Babylon Fire Department, police said.

The driver and passenger of the Honda were both taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said. No charges have been filed, police said.

The Honda and scooter were both impounded for a safety checks, police said.
