West Babylon Students Learn a Delicious Lesson

Forest Avenue Elementary School students learn about different varieties of apples.

Kindergarten students of Forest Avenue Elementary School in the West Babylon School District took part in a delicious math lesson.

In keeping with the seasonal theme of autumn, they each had the opportunity to taste four different types of apples and explore the similarities and differences, in addition to graphing their favorite variety of apple.

“This is a terrific hands-on lesson for our students,” said teacher Carolyn Bogart. “They have an opportunity to use the comparison skills they are learning in terms of the apple’s shape, size, color and taste. It also allows students to experiment with graphing as a means of recording data.”
