Worker Gets Hand Stuck in Meat Grinder at Suffolk County Grocery Store
Suffolk County Police officers helped free the man's hand, which was still lodged in a portion of the grinder when he was taken to hospital.

BAY SHORE, NY - A 24-year-old man got his hand stuck in a commercial meat grinder at a Suffolk County grocery store Tuesday afternoon, police said.
According to Suffolk Police, Bilal Hussein, of Bay Shore, was working at Halal Meat and Grocery located at 1581 Fifth Avenue in Bay Shore when his hand became lodged in a meat grinder he was operating around 2 p.m.
Emergency Service Section officers Walter Justincic and Carmine Pellegrino dismantled the grinder, which was attached to a table. Hussein's hand was still lodged in a portion of the grinder when he was transported by Brentwood Ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.
Justincic, Pellegrino and fellow Emergency Service Section Officer Danny Coan "scrubbed in" and went into the operating room, where they assisted doctors in sterilizing the device and used various tools to dismantle grinder components and helped surgeons dislodge Hussein's hand, police said.
Once freed, surgeons were able to operate on Hussein’s hand. The Islip Town Fire Marshal and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration were notified of the incident.
