📰 News we're reading
• Riverhead real estate transfers reported Sept. 25, 2026 (riverheadlocal.com) — A Baiting Hollow condo at 508 Fox Hill Drive recently sold for $645,000, one of 11 property transfers recorded around Riverhead and nearby hamlets. If you're tracking neighborhood values, the report details closing dates, prices, and locations across Aquebogue, Jamesport, Riverhead, Wading River, and Flanders.
• Riverhead begins storm cleanup as local growers assess crop damage, economic losses (riverheadlocal.com) — A powerful nor'easter chewed away a Baiting Hollow beach, stripping several feet of sand and exposing an old jetty while sparing most town facilities from serious structural damage. Riverhead officials are still assessing erosion and cleanup needs, and residents are urged to document any property damage and watch for possible county reporting systems that could support future aid requests.
• Early-season nor'easter floods the Northeast coast (cotality.com) — Baiting Hollow was one of several Long Island spots clocking wind gusts over 60 mph as an early-season nor'easter pounded the Northeast coast. While the article focuses on regional flooding, power outages, and insurance exposure, it underscores that Suffolk County's shoreline communities, including Baiting Hollow, faced serious wind and rain in this storm.
