GENESEE COUNTY/Batavia/Try Hockey for Free Day at McCarthy Ice Arena next Saturday, October 3rd (videonewsservice.net) — Batavia families with kids ages 4 to 9 can head to the David McCarthy Memorial Ice Arena on Evans Street next Saturday, Oct. 3, for a free Try Hockey for Free session. 3. GENESEE COUNTY/City of Batavia bills O-AT-KA for emergency force main cleaning project (videonewsservice.net) — Batavia's City Council is set to amend the 2026–27 budget to cover nearly $396,000 in emergency cleaning of the O-AT-KA force main after dairy waste severely restricted flow. City staff say the work, billed to O-AT-KA, has boosted wastewater capacity, eased strain on lift station pumps, and helped avert potential pump failure and environmental problems.
   

4. Genesee County veterans invited to Health and Benefit Fair in Batavia (videonewsservice.net) — Veterans in Batavia can access free health screenings, benefit information, and local support services at a Health & Benefit Fair on Monday, Oct. 19 at Veness-Strollo VFW Post 1602 on Edwards Street. Veterans may bring one guest, enjoy free food, and even enter a turkey raffle while meeting directly with service providers to ask questions about care and benefits.
   

5. September gas prices on pace for record month (wnypapers.com) — Drivers in Batavia are paying an average of $4.42 per gallon for regular gas, unchanged from last week, as prices across New York and the nation hover near record September levels. AAA explains that high crude oil costs and global tensions are keeping both gasoline and diesel prices elevated, and offers tips and member discounts to help motorists save.
