She has three children, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

In addition, local resident Helen Selva celebrated her 101st birthday on Feb. 11.

Selva was born and raised in Bay Shore, and has lived in Islip for more than 50 years.

A pioneer for her time, her long and successful career with Mobile Oil lead her to a managerial position, where she served as a department head.

Throughout her life, Selva has traveled all over the world, and has remained active.

Though she suffered a stroke last year at 100, she has fully recovered, and has become a source of knowledge and inspiration to her friends and family.

Town Councilman John C. Cochrane, Jr. presented Selva with a Certificate of Recognition in her home, where she celebrated in the company of loved ones.
