Bay Shore Beach Closed To Bathing

The beach has been shut down until further notice due to the finding of bacteria at levels over the acceptable criteria.

BAY SHORE, NY - The Suffolk County Department of Health announced on Thursday that Benjamin Beach in Bay Shore will be closed to bathing.

The beach was shut down due to the finding of bacteria at levels over the acceptable criteria.

According to Commissioner of Health Dr. James Tomarken, bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.

The beach will reopen when further testing reveals that the bacteria have subsided to acceptable levels.
