Bay Shore Senior Named Semi-Finalist At Science Symposium
Congratulations to Kevin Souhrada and his research partner Madison Esposito from West Islip High School.

From Bayshore Schools: Congratulations to Bay Shore High School senior Kevin Souhrada! Kevin and his research partner, Madison Esposito from West Islip High School, have been named semi finalists for the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium for the Long Island Region! Kevin and Madison have been experimenting at the National Synchrotron Light Source – II, the brightest X-ray microscope in the world, located at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The research team has been using beamlines including Submicron Resolution X-Ray Spectroscopy, Tender Energy X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy, and X-ray Powder Diffraction to uncover the chemistry and mineralogy of micrometeorites collected from high school roofs across Long Island, including samples the students collected from their very own high school roofs. Maddie and Kevin are part of the SPARK (Student Partnerships for Advanced Research and Knowledge) program at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Through this program, students and teachers work together with Brookhaven scientists and the Office of Educational Programs to conduct experiments at BNL's state-of-the-art facilities
