Bellport Man Arrested After Deadly Sunrise Highway Crash: Police
The man was charged with drug-impaired driving after the crash on Sunrise Highway service road near Brentwood Road, police say.
BAY SHORE, NY — A Bellport man has been arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs after a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian in Bay Shore early Friday morning, Suffolk County police said.
According to police, Andrew Holmes Garriques, 27, was driving a 2008 Mercedes C350 on the eastbound Sunrise Highway service road near the Brentwood Road overpass at around 5:18 a.m. on Feb. 13 when he struck a male pedestrian who was walking in the roadway.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Garriques, who was not injured in the crash, was charged with driving while impaired by drugs and is being held overnight at the Third Precinct. He is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 14 at First District Court in Central Islip, police said.
An adult female passenger in the Mercedes was not injured.
