For the first time this year a new, a non-commercial, or homebrewer, category was added to the competition to allow those with a passion for brewing to show off their talents as well.
After sampling the entries, the event attendees were able to cast their votes, one per category.
In the commercial category, Bay Shore’s HopWin’s Brewery took home the gold, receiving the most votes for their milkshake IPA called Dat Mango Tho.
Past winners included Greenport Harbor’s collaboration with Destination Unknown Brewery, Fuzzy Flamingo using the special ingredient, peach, in 2017 and Long Ireland Beer Company’s Moku Loa made with pineapple in 2018.
In the non-commercial category, husband and wife team of Jennifer and Tim Davis, wowed the crowd with their Last Mango in Paris, a hard cider with mango and lactose.
For those preparing for next year’s Long Island Craft Classic, the 4th annual BREW’D competition will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Heckscher State Park in East Islip.
