Officers Rescue 14 Ducklings From Storm Drain

All the ducklings were reunited with their mother, who was waiting nearby.

BAY SHORE, NY - Suffolk County police officers rescued 14 ducklings that fell into a storm drain in Bay Shore Sunday morning.

Officers Jack Ward and Joseph Bianco responded to Aletta Place in front of Napa Auto Parts at 9:20 a.m. after a 911 caller reported that several ducklings had fallen into a storm drain and the mother duck was waiting nearby.

The two removed the grate covering the drain and were able to grab four of the ducklings.

The others retreated into the tunnel, becoming unreachable.

Officer Steven Damico responded to the scene and downloaded a duck calling app to his cell phone.

The ducklings were attracted to the sound and came back into reach.

Bianco was able to grab nine more but one duckling remained unreachable.

Emergency Service Officer Carmine Pellegrino arrived a short time later and retrieved the last duckling with a net.

All 14 ducklings were reunited with the mother duck.
