Police ID Bicyclist Critically Injured After Being Struck By Car

The 17-year-old was doing a wheelie when he was struck by a minivan on Saturday night, police say.

BAYWOOD, NY - Suffolk Police have identified the bicyclist who was critically injured after being struck by a car while doing a wheelie in Baywood on Saturday night.

According to police, 17-year-old Joseph Lockwood, of Brentwood, has been identified as the bicyclist who was hospitalized after the crash on Pine Aire Drive.

BAYWOOD, NY - A bicyclist was critically injured in a crash in in Baywood on Saturday night, according to Suffolk Police.

A man, who has not yet been identified, was riding a BMX bicycle eastbound on Pine Aire Drive, near Garfield Avenue, when he performed a wheelie in the middle of the roadway at 10:38 p.m., police said.

The bicyclist was then struck by 2005 Dodge Caravan traveling westbound on Pine Aire Drive, police said.

The collision caused the bicyclist to be thrown into an eastbound 2012 Toyota Camry.

The bicyclist was transported via Brentwood Legion Ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore in critical condition.

Neither driver was injured. The vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
