UPDATE: Arrest Made After Shots Fired Outside Southside Hospital

No injuries reported Saturday morning.

BAY SHORE, NY – A Riverhead man has been arrested for firing a handgun in the Southside Hospital parking lot in Bay Shore Saturday morning, police said.

John Gamble, 35, is charged with first degree reckless endangerment.

Riverhead Police later reported that Gamble's brother, Charles Gamble, 35, was shot early Saturday on East Main Street and was taken to Southside Hospital for treatment; authorities are still searching for the gunman who shot him, police said.

Third Precinct police officers responded to a call of shots fired in the parking lot outside the hospital located at 301 East Main St. at 5:50 a.m. Officers responded and arrested Gamble after it was determined that he fired multiple rounds from a 9mm handgun into the air, police said.

No one was injured, police said.

Southside Hospital went into lockdown mode for a couple hours Saturday as police investigated.

Gamble, of Wildwood Trail in Riverhead, will be held overnight at the Third Precinct and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.
