Bayside Historical Society

The Bayside Historical Society presents "Moon and Bloom," a group exhibition featuring four New York–based artists — Beautiful_Soul, Jiae Kim, Dani Song, and Makoto Kishino — whose work draws on the enduring symbolism of the moon and the natural world, central motifs in East Asian art. Spanning painting, textile, and mixed media, the show gathers luminous moon jars, Korean folk painting (minhwa), shifting indigo textiles, and mixed-media "ecliptic moon" works into a quiet, contemplative garden where the cycles of nature and human imagination converge. Experience these works up close and meet one of the featured artists at The Castle in Fort Totten during the exhibition's two-week run this summer.
EXHIBITION SCHEDULE: Opening Date: Tuesday, August 4, 2026, 10:00 AM Opening Reception &amp; Demo: Saturday, August 8, 12:00–4:00 PM — enjoy light refreshments and an opportunity to meet the artists. Artist-in-residence hours: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 10:00 AM–3:00 PM — Jiae Kim will be painting minhwa on-site in an open studio setting; visitors are welcome to observe and ask questions. Closing Date: Friday, August 14, 2026, 3:00 PM

Moon & Bloom — Showcasing East Asian Art at the BHS Castle

The Bayside Historical Society's staff and volunteers are offering guided tours of The Castle and its exhibitions on the second Sunday of each month from 1pm-3pm. Each tour lasts approximately 45 minutes; two tours are offered, with the first beginning at 1:00 PM and the second at 2:00 PM. Admission is free, but reservations are required. The Castle in Fort Totten is one of New York City's finest surviving examples of Gothic Revival castellated-style architecture. Completed in 1887, the building originally served as the Officers' Mess Hall and Club for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers School of Application. 45th Annual Italian Festival Returns to Port Washington September 10–13
The John Michael Marino Lodge No. 1389 is proud to invite the community to its 45th Annual Italian Festival, a Port Washington tradition featuring authentic Italian cuisine, live entertainment, carnival rides, fireworks, shopping, and family fun.
The festival will be held at North Hempstead Beach Park, 175 West Shore Road, Port Washington, from Thursday, September 10, through Sunday, September 13, 2026. 
Festival Hours
Thursday, September 10: 6:00 PM – 11:00 PM
Friday, September 11: 6:00 PM – 11:00 PM
Saturday, September 12: 2:00 PM – 11:00 PM
Sunday, September 13: Noon – 9:00 PM
Festival-goers can enjoy a wide variety of authentic Italian favorites, including pasta dishes, the festival's famous meatball heroes, eggplant heroes, rice balls, sausage and peppers, and many additional offerings from specialty food vendors, including tacos and traditional festival fare.
The popular pastry tent will feature fresh cannoli, Italian pastries, cappuccinos, espresso, coffee, and the festival favorite—hot, freshly made zeppole.
The entertainment lineup offers something for everyone:
Thursday: DJ and Live Karaoke
Friday: Decadia performing from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM
Saturday: Live music from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by Any Way You Want It from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM
Sunday: Italian Band, Accordion Player and&nbsp;popular music from Noon until 9:00 PM
A spectacular fireworks display is scheduled for Saturday evening at approximately 9:00 PM.
Blue Sky Amusements will once again provide a wide selection of carnival rides for children and adults. Pay-One-Price wristbands will be available all four days, allowing unlimited rides during designated sessions.
In addition to the food and entertainment, visitors can browse a variety of vendor booths offering jewelry, specialty merchandise, crafts, and unique gifts.
Admission is free, with parking just $5 per vehicle. Food, rides, and Pay-One-Price wristbands are available for purchase.
