• Reading to Dogs (highlandscurrent.org) — Families in Beacon can bring their children to read aloud to therapy dogs at the Howland Public Library, with the next session coming up on Oct. 3. The program is designed to build kids’ reading confidence in a relaxed, judgment-free setting, and similar events are also scheduled soon at nearby libraries in Garrison and Cold Spring.
   

• Art in Unexpected Places (highlandscurrent.org) — Beacon pedestrians may spot Selva Ozelli’s bold, flag-inspired painting filling a picture window at Hudson Land Design on Main Street, part of a series also hanging in Cold Spring. Her thickly textured works, featuring rose-leaf garlands and local nature motifs, turn everyday cafes and offices around the region into informal galleries.
