Presented in a natural acoustic sound room are concert series that offers a fish fry buffet. This venue is fill with the authentic cultural awareness of a different period of musical togetherness. Step back for just a moment, to feel what took place in a real jazz community.
Performances are done with the authentic jazz vibe of yesteryear. Imagine retreating back to a different time and spend the evening in a very intimate, private place. Experience the enjoyment of the Jazz Concert, and a Southern Fish Fry Buffet that will delight any palette cooked on site in the traditional jazz way.
Before the evening ends if you feel that you would like to show off your talents by performing your special artistic self, join in on the OPEN MIC. The musicians will play with you or you can play for them. Open Participation is expected at the end of the night from the audience, but if you’re shy just sit back and enjoy the show.
Experience an Upright Grand Piano from the early 19th c., just like the ones once used to create the Classic Jazz still heard today. The Charles M. Stieff Co., piano has its own American history. Referred to as the poor mans Steinway. Only, actually it stands with Grand Steinways of the same era. Also like Brownstone houses, Stieff pianos are no longer created.
We are very happy to share the history of Jazz, the house and the piano dating back as far as the 1800s. Other popular acoustic style instruments are presented by musicians what we call THE ROOM. Like Stand-Up Bass
During the 1930 perhaps even earlier, one didn't always go to Harlem for the Jazz scene. Brooklyn had one as well. Bedford Stuyvesant had on of the largest Jazz neighborhood in around. Bed Stuy held many venues that housed jazz greats like Thelonius Monk, Randy Weston, Miles Davis, Max Roach, Hank Mobley and others. Brooklyn's Paramount Theatre among others held major Jazz Concerts. All eventually changed, and jazz club fizzled out in favor of a different generation of music. Yes, even Uptown and Midtown changed as well.
Debbie McClain, owner of Sankofa Aban Bed and Breakfast looked to revive the local community scene of the past. Including jazz from the past when she met with partner Eric Lemons.
DebbieMc, along with Eric Lemons an accomplished string musician and Co-Foundering partner for BrownstoneJAZZ values authenticity and selectiveness, when deciding who to feature and when.
This is Salon Jazz. No need bells, whistles or amps. Even though Cow bells and lip whistling are welcomed. So pucker up if you must. Intimate, classic, acoustic concerts plain and simple every Friday and Saturday night, in a fun loving atmosphere of live jazz for everyone.
You're invited to spend a magical evening of music as Debbie and Eric takes you behind the scene of this undercover jazz experience. You can get there early to meet the performers, and as you take a seat for a jazz fest of a lifetime, with the right ticket, as these two host present you with today's best Jazz artist.
