BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — Firefighters spent hours putting out a blaze that engulfed three buildings on Monroe Street on Monday night.

"It seems to us that the building was under renovation, FDNY Assistant Chief Jospeh Jardin told ABC7. "We had a firefighter initially upon entry fall through the floor. That's how we discovered it was compromised due to the renovation from a structural integrity perspective."

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Officials are also investigating whether squatters were inside the building, according to ABC7.
