A Crop of New Shops for Bed-Stuy
The Shops of Lewis Ave. Merchants Association want to bring a cozy neighborhood feel back to Bed-Stuy.

Five new locally owned shops – a bakery, candy shop, gardening store, men’s salon and jerk chicken restaurant -- will soon be coming to Bed-Stuy, with the help of the Shops of Lewis Ave. Merchants Association, says the Daily News.
SOLA, the report says, is trying to create a “small town atmosphere” in Bed-Stuy, focusing on Lewis Ave. and side streets like Stuyvesant and Bainbridge sts.
“I’ve been offered space in other neighborhoods but I don’t want to go,” Deborah Young, who aims to open a seasonal gardening store in the neighborhood, told the News. “I want to be home.”

“An opportunity came up when this space became available. So we negotiated with the landlord, and here we are,” Edwin Drakes told Patch.

Shopping in Bed-Stuy has been better than ever, though, with a crop of new small shops already open, like that opened on Franklin Ave. earlier this month.
And in “a couple of weeks,” according to Grubstreet, Bed-Stuy residents can get their Mediterranean fix (think seafood, pasta and traditional Italian) with the opening of Celestino on Halsey St.
The restaurant will seat 40 and will have a nautical theme, according to the report. The owners are just waiting on a go-ahead from the Health Department to officially open their doors.
