Ambush Shooter In Bed-Stuy Killing Sentenced, Prosecutors Say

Isaac Bryant was sentenced to a life in prison after a jury found him guilty of shooting Jamaal Anderson in the back, prosecutors said

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN — A Bed-Stuy man who fatally shot another man in the back was sentenced in Brooklyn Criminal Court Thursday, prosecutors said.

Isaac Bryant, 37, faces up to life in prison for killing 31-year-old Jamaal Anderson in a Bed-Stuy courtyard in May, 2015, the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office announced.

Bryant, of Bed-Stuy, snuck up behind Anderson, who was sitting outside 1615 Fulton St., around 3:330 p.m. on May 27, said prosecutors.

Anderson tried to run when he heard gunshots behind him, but he caught a bullet in the back and fell to the ground, said prosecutors.

Bryant, who shot Anderson in retaliation after his friend was shot days earlier, jumped into his car and sped away, prosecutors said.

Anderson was rushed to Interfaith Hospital but doctors were unable to save his life, said prosecutors.

Police arrested Bryant after investigators found surveillance video that showed him running toward Anderson and shooting his gun, prosecutors said.

Bryant was sentenced to 23 years to life in prison Thursday after being convicted of murder in Brooklyn Criminal Court in November, prosecutors said.

“This defendant carefully planned and executed a cowardly attack on an unsuspecting man,” said Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez. “Today’s sentence ensures that this clearly dangerous individual is taken off our streets.”
