Gifted Summer Program for Youths Now at Adelphi Academy

The Summer Institute for the Gifted (SIG), one of the nation’s leading gifted summer programs, will be launching a day program for academically talented students at Adelphi Academy in the summer of 2012.

The program at Adelphi Academy is held from July 23 through August 10, 2012 and will be open to gifted and talented students ages 5 to 12. The deadline for applications is May 15.

Students choose four courses, selecting from academic, art and recreational classes that meet daily. The program begins each day at 8:30am and concludes at 4pm with extended drop-off and pick-up times available.

“There has been an increasing demand from SIG parents over the years to provide a program for gifted students in the Brooklyn area,” states Barbara Swicord, Ed.D., President and CEO of SIG. “We are proud to host our program at Adelphi Academy, a school with over 145 years of academic excellence, and provide an opportunity for gifted students to stretch their minds without a lengthy commute to our programs in Bronxville or Hoboken.”

Created and offered by SIG, the program provides instruction in several dozen courses during its regular academic schedule and engages students in recreational activities every day. Courses are taught at levels appropriate for gifted students who are ages 5 through 12, covering humanities, mathematics, sciences and multi-disciplinary courses including Kitchen Chemistry: From Field to Fork, Get Theatrical!, Move Over Sherlock and more.

SIG’s mission is to provide the highest quality educational and social opportunities for academically gifted and talented students through programs designed to meet their abilities and needs. SIG is a program of the National Society for Gifted and Talented (NSGT), a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
