“Unity” Presents New Middle School Option for Families
BROOKLYN, NY – April 12, 2013 – Unity Preparatory Charter School of Brooklyn (Unity) will hold an admissions lottery for its inaugural sixth grade class on Monday April 15, 2013 at 5 p.m. in the school’s auditorium located at 432 Monroe Street in the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn. Unity is a new, tuition–free public middle school that will open its doors to 128 sixth grade students in September 2013. The school will grow to serve students in grades 6-12 by September 2019.
“We are very excited to have received over 330 applications for the 128 available seats in our incoming 6th grade class. Community members have played key roles in helping us shape Unity's design over the past two years - with their continued support, we look forward to making Unity both a premier educational institution and a great source of pride within the community,” said Joshua Beauregard, Unity’s Head of School.

The lottery is open to the public to attend; however, parents and guardians of students who submitted applications are not required to attend the lottery. As a public charter school, Unity is open to all New York City students. To meet the urgent need for a high quality middle school in Community School District 13, students living in the district will receive preference in the lottery.
During Unity’s lottery, the first 128 students chosen at random from the applications submitted by the April 8th deadline will have the choice to enroll in Unity for the upcoming academic year. An independent third party witness will announce the names of the students selected. All other applicants who submitted their applications by the deadline will then be entered into a waiting list. Like the main lottery process, the order of the waiting list will be assigned at random based on the remaining applications that were submitted by the deadline. For more information about how Unity’s admissions lottery works, please read the enrollment policy found on the school’s website: www.unityprep.org/enroll/enrollment-policy.
