Baby Found Dead In Bed-Stuy Apartment Treated As Homicide

One-month-old Nichelle Waring had bruising on her body, police say.

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — The death of a one-month-old child, who was found inside of a Bed-Stuy apartment, is being treated as a homicide, the NYPD said Wednesday morning. Nichelle Waring was found inside Apt. 2X at 666 Hancock Street back in June, the NYPD said. Waring was unconscious and unresponsive, with bruises on her torso, police said. She was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to the NYPD.

The baby's death was deemed a homicide Tuesday, and no arrests have been made in the case, according to police. Police sources told Pix11 that her cause of death was battered child syndrome.

The child's mother and the mother's boyfriend are being questioned as suspects in the case, authorities told the New York Post. Kenesha McCroskey, the baby's 20-year-old mother, told cops she had fed Nichelle and left her in her crib for 45 minutes. When McCroskey returned to the crib, the baby wasn't breathing, and there was blood coming from her nose, McCroskey said.
