Bed-Stuy Dad Survives Fiery Explosion In His Home: Report
Firefighters rushed to a Lexington Avenue home Tuesday night to battle the explosive fire, officials said.

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN — A Bed-Stuy father survived a fiery explosion in his home Tuesday night, according to officials and reports.
Firefighters rushed to battle a blaze in the three-story red brick apartment building near Lexington and Lewis avenues around 9 p.m., according to the FDNY.
Resident Craig Adkins, 50, was running out of the building behind his family when an explosion threw him about 5 feet, his wife told the Daily News.

“The whole thing just exploded,” said Shawna Wigfall, 53. “I grabbed the kids and ran out.”
The family — Adkins, Wigfall, her mother, their daughter and two grandchildren — all escaped the building, the Daily News reported.

Top floor resident Tureal Clarke, 19, was banging on the door of his neighbors, trying to wake them up, when he saw the explosion.
“The sparks flew up and boom,” Clarke told the Daily News. “It caught me by surprise.”
It took firefighters 40 minutes to get the blaze under control, according to FDNY.
Fire Department officials warned the Department of Building that the building was shaking and fire may have damaged its structural stability, city records show.
