Bed-Stuy Man Gets 25 Years For Killing Man Who Insulted Women: DA
"Are you just going to let them disrespect us like that?" a woman asked Santiago Salcedo, 27, before he shot a man in Queens, a DA said.
ASTORIA, QUEENS — A Bed-Stuy man will serve 25 years in prison for a 2016 Queens killing sparked by insults flung toward two women, authorities said.
Santiago Salcedo, 27, learned his fate Friday in a Queens courtroom. Jurors found him guilty of manslaughter and attempted assault in December after a five-week trial that delved into an early morning dustup turned violent, authorities said.
"This act of violence could have easily been avoided," Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said in a statement. "An early morning derogatory remark started a chain of events that resulted in one man being killed."

Salcedo barhopped on Steinway Street with his friends — two women and one man — early July 17, 2016, authorities said.
They walked near 28th Avenue in Astoria when they passed Qsaun Brown, 23, and another man at about 4 a.m., authorities said. Brown and the other man made "derogatory remarks" about the two women with Salcedo, according to a DA release.

“Are you just going to let them disrespect us like that?” one woman asked Salcedo, according to the release.
Salcedo went to a car, grabbed something from the trunk and went back with his male friend to confront Brown, authorities said. They argued before Brown ran to his car and drove it back toward Salcedo, the release states.
Brown jumped from the car and rushed toward Salcedo, who grabbed a gun from his friend and shot at Brown five times, authorities said. A bullet hit Brown in the neck and he died in a nearby hospital, according to the release.
Brown was unarmed, authorities said. Salcedo also shot at Brown's friend, but that man wasn't hit, they said.
Salcedo lived on Madison Street in Bed-Stuy, authorities said. Brown was also from Brooklyn, they said.
A judge sentenced Salcedo to 20 years on the manslaughter charge and five years on attempted assault, with the terms to be served consecutively, the DA said.
